Hector Sanchez
During the summertime in Key West while Hector Sanchez was in the seventh grade, the world of photography was revealed when his father bought him a used Pentax K1000 camera. A close family friend then gave him an attic full of vintage darkroom equipment and in no time he was processing negatives and printing black-and-white images in a makeshift darkroom in his mother’s tiny bathroom.
“It was the paintings of Edward Hopper and Norman Rockwell that greatly influenced my early interest in photography. It wasn’t just about the photo-realism and small-town moments they depicted; it was their use of light that captured my attention.”
No matter what he currently shoots, the most important elements in Hector’s photographs are the quality of light and well-balanced composition.
“I love photographing food, still life, spaces and places. And, I still feel the same excitement when I create a beautiful photograph as I did when I was in the seventh grade.”
