Jörg Meyer shot this wonderful campaign for Bobinette, clothing for boys. Very cute and hopefully durable as it gets rolled in the mud and covered with frog juice. The video has great footage from Bill Aylward of the creative firm Fred and Ethel, who captured the shoot for Bobinette and some of the way Jorg works. Kids are either the hardest or easiest group to photograph, because you either get them or you don’t. You have to really connect with them, and engage with them. No faking. Good thing Jorg is a great artist and genuinely nice guy – kids love him and you can really see it in the photographs.

People Food
Carrie Purcell put her famous food styling skills on display for this story in People magazine. One surefire way to feel like a celebrity, if only for one night, is to eat like one. First, set up a strobe light in the kitchen to simulate the paparazzi. Then, force your children to beg for your autograph over and over. Finally, bring out the most fabulous paper plates you have in the pantry. It will be like walking down the red carpet, but with more kitchen confidence and less pressure. Because we all know, when you’re famous, you never have to do the dishes (I assume this is because of the paper plates).
Cheeeeeeeese
Andrew Purcell behind the camera. Carrie Purcell at the stove. A studio chock full of bread and cheese for Food Network Magazine’s article on 50 grilled cheese sandwiches. Just thinking about it makes me want to diet for a week. You know, so that the next week I can eat all 50. By the end of the shoot, Andrew’s camera was so caked in butter and melted dairy products that all the digital files had grease stains. Ok, we’re exaggerating a little. But it is not an exaggeration to say that the Purcells are the undisputed champions of gooey sandwich goodness. Please pass the napkins.
We’re Unwerthy!
During this Bacardi shoot, things predictably got a little rowdy. Loud music, beautiful people, and the legendary Ellen Von Unwerth directing a veritable army of creative artists who were tasked with bringing the historic scene to life. You can’t fake a scene like this, it has to be a real party. And at some point in the afternoon, an unnamed crew member bumped the waitress, and Carrie Purcell watched in Matrix-style slow motion as her 3 hero drinks went flying through the air and crashing on the floor. Everyone froze, and the record player probably screeched to a halt. I can only imagine the look on the faces of the agency and client as all eyes turned to Carrie: another round por favor! Let’s keep this party going!
Epic Mac & Cheese
It is hard to improve upon perfection, but try we must. Scaling the walls of the most refined comfort food that has ever – will ever – exist. Carrie Purcell attempts the impossible: enough different variations to make you go into a food coma just from looking at them. It is dangerous to even attempt a shoot like this, but Carrie rocked up with all the best tools, the freshest ingredients and a whole team of experts to document the expedition. Will they reach the summit? Or collapse into a gooey heap of melted cheese and butter? Find out in this month’s issue of Fine Cooking – Extreme Comfort Food Edition.
Quick Fix
Carrie Purcell has an addiction. Sad to say, it is taking over her life in a slow-motion mudslide of warm and rich chocolate. In this story for Fine Cooking, chocolate is stacked on plated chocolate stacked on chocolate bars. I’m feeling strangely euphoric just looking at the food styling. I wonder what they did with all the leftover chocolate bars from the shoot… excuse me for a minute while I go call my dealer… er.. Carrie.
Drab to Mega Fab
There is nothing better than digging in with your fingers. Utensils are so stodgy. Carrie and Andrew Purcell were perfect for this shoot on finger food, because they are both just so hands on when it comes to cooking and capturing the magic. This is part of why their shoots have such a personal feel and individual style. In this shoot for the holiday issue of Sweet Paul Magazine, you can learn how to make Maple Bacon Popcorn. Goes well with just about anything. Especially a warm fire and to defrost those fingers.
